EMERALD CITY COMICON PHOTOS
===All images model-released and available for licensing and prints===

I have always wanted to photograph Emerald City Comicon here in Seattle. The annual event is attended by tens of thousands daily for three long days — and I knew it would be a great opportunity to make some portraits. So this year, I finally went!

All told, I photographed more than 40 attendees. Sometimes it was their costume that caught my eye; others, it was their makeup and character.

I was really satisfied too that this self-assignment was immediately licensed by SeattlePI.com. It really is great to work with clients that value personal work.

The images were lit with two Alien Bee strobe powered by a Vagabond II battery pack.

More of my Emerald City Comicon Photos are available online at SeattlePI.com

Seattle editorial photographer | Seattle Seahawks Fan Portraits

Before the start of the Seattle Seahawks game against the Detroit Lions at Qwest Field, I made portraits of some of the Seahawks’ most dedicated and passionate fans. I have really been enjoying making portraits of people at different events recently (like the Seattle Tattoo Expo and the Bellingham ComicCon) and wanted to try a similar style with the Seahawks fans.

I want to return for another game; these superfans are as fun to meet as they are to photograph!

From Wikipedia, “Higgins played for the Spurs, Orlando Magic, Golden State Warriors, New Jersey Nets, Philadelphia 76ers and Portland Trail Blazers in six NBA seasons, averaging 6.3 ppg in his career.” Here, Higgins poses for a portrait in the Triton gymnasium Monday July 27, 2009.

What a nice guy. Even though I only had a short time with him (before he offered to drive one of his players to the airport), Sean was a lot of fun to shoot. As a Seattle environmental portrait photographer, I have dealt with my share of subjects that did not want their picture taken. Luckily, this was not the case.
