Fremont apartment fire memorial | Seattle editorial photographer

Posted in assignment work, Downtown Seattle, editorial work, news, Washington by bermanphotos on June 20, 2010

For SeattlePI.com, I covered the most gut-wrenching assignment of my career, as I photographed the memorial service for five young family members killed in an apartment fire last Saturday in the Seattle neighborhood of Fremont. In Helen Gebregiorgis’ Fremont apartment were three of her children, Joseph Gebregiorgis, 13, Nisreen Shamam, 6, and Yaseen Shamam, 5; her sister, Eyerusalem Gebregiorgis, 22; and a niece, 7-year-old Nyella Smith, daughter of a third sister, Yordanos Gebregiorgis. My thoughts and prayers are with this family. I simply cannot begin to imagine the pain of their losses.
