Seattle editorial photographer | Traveling Vietnam Memorial photos

I was hired by The Enterprise Newspapers to photograph the arrival of a traveling Vietnam Memorial, making its way north from Oregon, to Acacia Memorial Park and Cemetery. Per the press release, a thousand Patriot Guard motorcyclists would be escorting the memorial. Unfortunately, only about 50-60 ultimately did, given some poor weather conditions further South. The memorial is on display right now at Acacia, until August 16, 2009. I should hopefully be able to get out there and see it. Should be pretty neat as I have never been to Washington D.C. for the original. The traveling exhibit is a 3/4 size replica, but with all the detail of the original.

The Patriot Guard riders took longer to arrive in Seattle than expected, which gave me the chance to explore the grounds at Acacia Memorial a bit. I made my way to the Mausoleum and was struck by the beauty of the site.

It was my first time at the cemetery, and being alone in the mausoleum was a unique experience. So quiet and isolated.
I made a few photos of the inside of the building. It’s beautiful, check it out.

After an hour and change of waiting around under the shade of the campus’ many trees, the promised motorcyclists arrived.
