Water conservation for CITYVISION Magazine | Seattle editorial photographer

The business of governance and politics in Washington State is the domain of one of my favorite clients, CITYVISION Magazine. They investigate issues that sound like they could be boring on their face and make them approachable and relevant and a great read. Plus they run awesome illustrated covers. Lucky for me, when they call I usually get to photograph someone with a stake in something pretty cool. And shoot it my way.

During what became a very busy week, I got the opportunity in August to photograph Everett Mayor Ray Stephanson and Olympia Mayor Doug Mah. Their cities and regional partners have been doing great things with water conservation and the article tells it a lot better than I could. It’s a great read. And I am really happy to be able to show these now that the story has ran!

Boeing 787 Dreamliner for Puget Sound Business Journal
The Puget Sound Business Journal assigned me to cover the official delivery event of the new Boeing 787 Dreamliner. It was pretty cool to visit the enormous, expansive Boeing plant in Everett for the first time. What was supposed to just be a press conference media tour with All Nippon Airways employees, Boeing and Rolls Royce emerged as an opportunity to tour the new plane too.
My goal with the assignment was to come back with something different from everyone else. At the end of the day, I got to make some Daniel Berman photos, no matter my client.
All in all, an interesting afternoon and some new experiences to boot. I hope to return at some point and better document the plant and the scale of this massive facility.
Thanks for looking!

Bellingham editorial photographer | 2010 portraits of the year
I have always enjoyed making portraits, whether they are impromptu encounters as at Bellingham Comicon, or in more formal sessions, as in my work with Western Washington University athletes. Portraiture is so exciting and fulfilling to me — just the idea of being able to capture someone’s true personality in an image is a thrill. 2010 offered me the opportunity to shoot portraits for some terrific clients.
Cityvision Magazine hired me to make portraits of Bellingham Mayor Dan Pike, Shoreline Mayor Keith McGlashan and Everett City Attorney Ramsey Ramerman.
The Western Front assigned me to make portraits of some of Western’s top athletes and other important members of the Bellingham community.
I also made portraits for a number of smaller, local clients and editorial publications. No matter who I am photographing, I love the challenge of connecting a portrait to the story in a meaningful way.
Without further adieu, here are a few of my favorite portraits of 2010. (more…)
